Sports Day 2018

This was Ben’s 2nd KS2 Sports Day, so he was out doing stuff all day again. The weather was dry and sunny, although very hot!

In the morning, Ben played Rounders and did extremely well. He chose to do this rather than football and netball (which he did last year) and showed how good he was by getting a run on each of his goes, apart from just once, when he got caught. He was excellent and much better than the other children. We had played rounders when we went camping at Woodlands, so he had had a bit of practice recently, and they were using a cricket bat instead of a rounders bat, which did make things a lot easier. Ben was also meant to do cross country but it was cancelled due to the extreme heat!

In the afternoon, Ben took part in a relay event where you had to tag the next person and then hold hands with them and run back to get another person and so on until you had all 6 in your team in the opposite bases. Unfortunately, one of the boys on his team tugged him around too quickly and caused him to fall over and hurt his back. He said it hurt a lot and he was nearly crying, which was a shame. Mr Harden (the teacher) went over to sort him out and he ended up sitting out the end of the race.

The next thing he had to do was a standing long jump, which he managed to do OK, and finally the vortex throw, which he did OK in as well. There were lots of other events going on but not all children did all of them. He seemed to enjoy most of it and we had a nice time watching him with Coby (who wasn’t in Bumblebees that day).

Bike Ride With The Beavers

Last Friday, Aaron had his Beavers bike ride and Ben wanted to join in as well. We asked the head Beaver and she said it was fine as long as Ben behaved! So Ben came along with my group (I was helping) which was Aaron and his friend Archie. Ben thought it was great as we cycled from Clearbrook to Bickleigh Viaduct along Drake’s Trail and back again. The weather was perfect and Kelly and Faye had put on a picnic for all the Beavers (with enough food for the helpers and Ben) to eat on our return. It was a great evening and really enjoyable and Ben was very good – mostly! 😉

Schools Half Marathon Challenge – Completed

On the Plymouth Half Marathon day, Ben had to complete the final mile of the challenge and he did it with no problems at all. 😉 We didn’t see him go past the start (only saw some of the other groups from his school) but finally caught a glimpse of him walking with his friend about half way through the mile, along the Hoe road. We didn’t see him finish either as there was just too many people gathered around the finish line, which was a shame. Afterwards, he received his medal and goody bag so he was very proud to have done it and said the he wants to do the 10k with me in October! 😉

5 Awards at Assembly

The first assembly after half term, Ben ended up getting 5 awards or certificates, which confused Mr Hancock the Headmaster as he had to keep calling Ben up to get them! 😉 It was funny to watch. Ben received his bronze merit award, his next University challenge award, the medal for the Half Marathon schools challenge, his MOTM trophy from football and his latest swimming certificate for 100m. He was very pleased with it all though and so were we! 😉
