Secondary School Confirmation

During our weekend away in Liverpool, we learnt what secondary school Ben had got into and, to our relief, it was our number 1 choice – Ivybridge Community College!!  Yippee!!

The email with the confirmation was sent out at about midnight on the Sunday night, so Kelly couldn’t sleep until she had the email, as she was worried that he wouldn’t get into Ivybridge.  But, phew!, he did! 🙂  Ben was very, very happy when we told him as well as he easily preferred that school to the others that we had looked at.

Argyle with Kolts

The other weekend, Marcus (Ben’s coach), managed to get us some free tickets to watch Argyle vs Crewe at Home Park.  Originally, it was going to be for the team only, as a bonding session due to the horrific weather cancelling the matches each weekend, but he was able to open this up to parents and then siblings, depending on how many tickets he would be able to get. In the end, we were able to get 3 tickets so myself, Ben and Coby went (Coby’s first live match).  The weather was awful and the tickets ended up being on Row A of the family enclosure, where we had never been before, at pitch level so the view wasn’t great, so we were open to the elements and got very wet and quite cold by the end.  Ben enjoyed it though with his team mates and was cheering Argyle on and jeering at the away supporters when Argyle came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1.  In a few weeks, Ben will be going again with his Plymouth Kolts team mates for the DJM day at Argyle, but this is only for players and coaches so no parents can go to that one, although I do have 3 tickets for the same match from a work colleague! heehee

Bowling Fun

Bowling @ TenPin

Bowling @ TenPin

Last week, during half term, we went bowling at TenPin.  We all had a good time, although Ben ended up last which didn’t go down very well with him.  We did their holiday deal whereby we got a game of bowling and a burger meal for a cheaper price, even though it was still very expensive! Afterwards, the boys went in the arcade and won enough tickets to get a small sweet each, which they were pleased about!  Ben was doing OK at bowling really, but we hadn’t played it for such a long time so we were all out of practice.  Even though he came last, he was only about 15 points off of winning!  Here is a pic of Ben at bowling!

Guildhall Trip With School

A couple of weeks ago, Ben was chose, along with 3 other’s from Year 6, to go to the Guildhall with their R.E. teacher to help man a stand about the work they have been doing. So, Ben spent the day at the Guildhall helping to show his and other’s work off to those that visited the stand.  It was a local event so there were several other schools there but it was good that Ben was chosen.

Hat Trick Hero

After scoring a goal in the game before, Ben carried on his goal scoring streak into the away game against Plymouth Parkway on the 1st February and scored a quality hat trick!!  He was completely over the moon with that and so were we.  Gramps had come up to watch as well so that was very good timing by Ben!! Of course, I had said at the start of the season that if he scores a hat trick, I will give him £10, so I was out of pocket that day. Gramps also matched it so Ben had a nice little earner!  Also, Parkway was the team that Ben almost signed for last Summer, so it was nice to get some goals against them and play very well.  Unfortunately, somehow, he didn’t get Man of the Match, as our Goalie, Jack, got it for some great saves.  The score ended 4-4 but Kolts were 3-1 down at half time until Ben’s hat trick rescued them.  His first was a well taken goal from the left of the goal where he had a shot saved but it rebounded to him and he poked it in.  The second came from a corner which was rebounding around the box until Ben turned and hit it into the bottom left corner.  The third was the best as he got past a couple of defenders and scored into the bottom left of the goal from just inside the box.  Kolts then managed to hang on to a well deserved draw but we were very proud of Ben and all his colleagues and coaches were thrilled for him!

Here is a pic of him at the end of the match, though he doesn’t look too thrilled!! haha
