Parents Evening

Last night, Kelly and I went to the first proper parents evening for  Ben at school. The session was split into two periods – the first 10 minutes was where we could have a look through his workbook for the year, with the final 10 minutes sitting with his teacher, Mrs Smale.

The workbook was very good and showed off all the work he had done since he started school in September and included pictures he had drawn, sums he had completed, words he had written and photographs of Ben at different stages and with various pieces of work. It also had comments from the teacher which were all positive and praised him for learning everything so quickly!

When we were sat with Mrs Smale, she basically said that Ben was a joy to teach and was a lovely little boy.  He is doing so well in his reading, writing and Maths that he is very close to being at a Year 1 level (his year is classed as reception) and he is one of the top students in his Year. This is not even after 2 terms of school in reception yet! So he is doing very well! There wasn’t really much else that she said as there was nothing negative although she said she hoped the birth of our new baby wouldn’t affect him at all, which it probably won’t. So she said for him to keep it up and he will go along way! 😉

PS – Ben is now getting a little present for this! 😉

Assembly, 14th April 2014

Ben had a small talking part in his year groups assembly/worship this week. It was a one liner but he didn’t forget it! 😉 The assembly/worship was about what they had learned so far this term (which was about other countries, maths and speaking french!). It was a very good assembly/worship! 😉

Birthday Parties Galore!

Towards the end of last year (2013), Ben was invited to about 4 birthday parties in a 3 week period. He went to all of them and enjoyed them all! They were all quite different as well.

One was at the Scooter and Skate park behind the Vue Cinema on a Saturday evening, which turned out to be really good. Aaron was allowed to go as well so he had Ben’s old Spider-Man scooter whereas Ben had the new one that he had had for his birthday. We all stayed for the 2 hours and I had a go on Ben’s scooter as well, and quite enjoyed it myself!  It was really cold in there though as no heating but was good fun and the boys enjoyed it. They were both bombing around the place (Aaron was a little slower) and didn’t get hurt which is what we were worried about!

Another was at a place called Dingles Fairground, and this was excellent as we were all allowed to go as well (an extra £10 for Aaron though)! The party we went to had full reign of the indoor amusement rides so we could go on as many as we wanted, as many times as we wanted.  The boys went on several rides and I went on the Dodgems with them both several times, and Ben even drove on a couple of occasions! They also did an adults only ride on an old fashioned big roundabout, where they cranked the speed up to maximum. My god it was fast and I was holding on for dear life at times!  Ben, and Aaron, didn’t go on the Ghost Train at all as it looked too scary. Even the other children at the party only went on it once as I think a lot of them got scared! Ben, and the rest of us, had a great time though going on the rides (although Kelly couldn’t as she was pregnant! 😉 ).

The other parties were at Drakes Den and at the local Woolwell Centre, with Ben enjoying them both!

Christmas 2013

Ben had a very enjoyable Christmas and got lots of presents from family and Father Christmas (so he must have been a good boy!).  He had been excited since we first put the Christmas Tree up at the end of November, and we were quite surprised that he actually slept very well on Christmas Eve, even though he was extremely excited at this point and Aaron being up a lot in the night with bad croup.

Ben was the first to get up to find that Father Christmas had been and filled up all the stockings, and he grabbed the first one he saw, even though it wasn’t his, and dragged it in to our bedroom and was about to dig in until we told him that he actually had Aaron’s!  Once he had his own, and Aaron had got up as well, he dived in and started opening his presents.  He got lots of lovely things in his stocking such as new books, chocolate, bath  stuff and other little items.  It didn’t take him long to open them all and he was then ready and raring to go downstairs to see what Father Christmas had left.

When we got downstairs, Ben and Aaron both opened the door to the front room at the same time and they ran through and got even more excited when they saw the stacks of presents that were there!  After getting settled, and having a drink and a snack for breakfast, I started to hand out the presents.  Both boys wanted to open each present and got a bit rowdy at times!  Ben had some great presents such as an Innotab and game (which he had been going on about for weeks and weeks so he was very happy with this!), a WWE wrestling ring play set, an Angry Birds Lego set, a little bus, a Woody doll from Toy Story (awesome!), clothes, binoculars, a Robo fish, DVD’s and more chocolate.  He also had a joint present with Aaron which was a Mario Kart Scalextric set (double awesome!) from Father Christmas.  He loved all of it and played with it all as it was unwrapped, although he was a little disappointed when we got to the last presents! 😉  Eventually, all was opened and it was then about dinner time so we had our Christmas Dinner, which Ben ate some of after having his starters (grapes) and Aaron’s!!

The afternoon was spent watching TV and playing with the toys and it went very quickly indeed.  It was then time to quickly talk to Grandma and Grandpa Tony, and Nan Nan and Pops via Google Video Chat on the laptop.  So both boys were showing off their new toys to them.  By this point they were also getting quite tired, so they had something to eat for tea and it wasn’t long after that they went up to bed.

Ben had a really great, but tiring, Christmas Day and got lots of lovely gifts, so thanks to everyone who gave him something!

Here are some photographs of Ben on the big day! 😉
