Laughing In His Sleep

Ben usually has night terrors a few times a week which means he usually wakes up crying his eyes out and not knowing why. He is still usually half asleep as well and it takes forever to calm him down and put him back to bed. But a couple of weeks ago, instead of waking up crying, he woke up laughing hysterically!! This is the first time he has done this and he woke Aaron up as well and he started laughing for some reason. It was quite scary really as he was hysterical and couldn’t stop himself from laughing his head off. My first thought was that there was some sort of gas in the bedroom but there wasn’t, so he must have been having a really funny dream! In the end, we had to take him into our room and sit him down on the bed and try and snap him out of it as he was rolling around laughing – seemingly unable to stop!  Eventually we got him to calm down and he turned moody then (tut!) and finally got him back to sleep properly about 20 minutes later. It was really weird but I suppose it was better than crying his eyes out! 😉

Bunk Beds

On 25th April we had some new bunk beds delivered and put together for the boys.  It was because Ben was getting quite big for his Thomas bed and bunk beds took up less space in the bedroom.  The delivery guy put them together as well, so saved us a job, and we are very pleased with them.  Needless to say, the boys love them!!

Chicken Pox

We were getting ready for preschool on Thursday 2nd May and I noticed a couple of red spots on Ben’s back and tummy.  After lifting his top I could see a couple of blisters as well and it was quite obvious Ben had Chicken Pox.  He only had about 10 at this time and I was hoping it would just be a mild case but little did we all know.  I rang the preschool to let them know I thought it was pox and they told me another child had been off ealier that week with Chicken Pox too, so that must be where Ben caught it from.

Over the next two days, more and more spots appeared and Ben ended up literally pickled in them from head to toe, including on his gums in his throat and in and on his eyes.  We could not believe it, right on Aaron’s 2nd Birthday and I was worried I may catch them as I never caught them as a child.  Unfortunately this meant some family could not attend Aaron’s Birthday celebration.  Ben luckily wasn’t too poorly with it, he was very itchy and was feeling cold and tired a lot.  We treated his spots with vira-soothe gel and bicarbonate of soda in cool baths.  He also took Piriton which seemed to help ease the itching.

A week later and whilst Ben still looks very spotty, they are all drying up nicely.  Aaron and myself escaped and Ben’s only real complaint is that he can’t go to preschool!

Parent – Keyworker Meeting

A few weeks ago I went into Ben’s preschool, to meet with Louise, Ben’s keyworker, to find out about his progress and how well he is learning and developing.

Louise told me that he is a very bright, helpful, kind and caring boy.  He is doing very well with Maths, meeting all the required targets and is achieving above average for his age.  He interacts well with the other children and comes across quite confident.  He is always happy to talk about home life things we do as a family at preschool.  Ben is happy to help the staff at preschool including tidying up and apparently has never been told off!  Louise told me Ben always talks about Aaron, his little brother.

Neither of us have any concerns with how he is doing, but we both agreed that we need to encourage him with his writing and alphabet as he is better with numbers and counting at the moment.

Unfortunately Louise has now left preschool.
